The Beach Treat
Jamie was so looking forward to Friday evening.
Since Dad had left, it was one of the few treats Jamie had during the holidays.
It would be a long drive on Friday evening, but Jamie and Mummy would wake up on Saturday and go to the beach—and that was a treat.
Playing in the sand and the water, jumping in the waves, feeling the pull of the sea and exploring the rock pools—it was all wonderful.
Jamie did not get to visit the beach very often. St Ives was far away: a two-hour journey by car. Once they arrived, they would stay in a rented holiday cottage.
Mummy was fond of their time at the beach too.
As well as having fun on the beach all day, they could explore the many different shops in St Ives.
But perhaps one of the greatest treats of visiting St Ives was the stall at the end of the beach that sold Cornish pasties.
After a full day at the beach, Mummy would take Jamie to the stall, where they would buy two vegetable Cornish pasties. Then they would sit together on the wall, looking out to sea.
The delicious vegetable pasties were the best. Sometimes, only sometimes Mummy would get them both an ice cream cone, with a chocolate flake.
Jamie and Mummy both loved the beach.
